I've been really interested of late in organizations who work to solve problems of extreme poverty in communities using local resources. Sawa World does just that. They identify local leaders who have innovative ideas on how to improve their communities and support them in their efforts. One example is Sawa Leader Alumni Olivia Damali Sserabira who established the Peace and Hope Training Centre in Uganda. She's helped over 46,000 women find meaningful employment. Her story is below:
The other aspect of Sawa World is documenting these stories using Sawa Youth Reporters. These are youth who attend Sawa World's media training program and are from the same communities as the leaders. The youth earn a wage and get to see the impact of the Leaders as well as the impact their efforts bring in creating these reports and documentaries. In essence, giving a voice to the voiceless.
If you'd like to donate to Sawa World, click here. Your money goes directly to these initiatives. Visit Sawa World today and find other ways you can help.
