The Power of Words and Compassion
The above video is an ad for a content management company and I implore you to watch it before you continue reading. It's only a minute and a half. Go ahead.
I feel this is an impactful way of showing how we as a society sometimes become immune to the immediate and how, as humans, we need to be given reason to care. The man is blind and in need of assistance, but in larger urban environments we are presented with thousands of stories and requests for help. What the woman does for the man is bring purpose to his need.
To me, this is a reminder to be compassionate to everyone. Even if we don't give to each person on the street, we can give to organizations that make it easier for those who find themselves in these situations. Whether you give time or money, both are extremely valuable to these organizations. A good resource for finding organizations you'd like to help is Charity Navigator. Think about how you can give today and get involved. Most importantly, think about your purpose.
